Korean pop culture, including dramas and music, is spreading throughout Mexico.
The Korean Culture Center there is packed with people every Saturday. Ola Coreana en Mexico is a Korean culture fan club, which hopes to learn about and get a feel for Korean culture at the center.
The members of Ola Coreana are big fans of Korean celebrities and determined to discover other aspects of Korean culture. Many of them are playing an important role in spreading the word on Korean culture throughout Mexico.
Some fan club members showed off their vocal and dance skills at the Mexico-Korea cultural exchange festival. The festival kicked off with an upbeat performance of traditional Korean percussion music. Members played Korean tunes on gongs and drums.
The fan dance was up next. Performers wore colorful traditional Korean costumes and the audience was captivated by their graceful moves.
The highlight of the festival was a Korean pop song contest. It's no easy task for a foreigner to sing a Korean song, but all the participants gave their best on stage.
Korean music is popular in Mexico because lyrics and sentiments expressed in Korean songs are known to be very similar to those of Mexican pop tunes. Local children and other dance groups also gave performances.
